VIJAYAWADA: The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has discovered a Telugu inscription dating back to the 8th Century CE in Gotlagattu village of Konakanamittla mandal, Prakasam district.
The fragmentary inscription, engraved on a broken stone, was found in the fields of a local farmer, Konaki Ramanaiah. It is written in Telugu and features script characters from the 8th Century CE.
ASI officials have partially deciphered the inscription and confirmed that it records a gift of land measured by rod (Kollu). However, due to damage, the remaining content of the inscription could not be recovered.
The find adds to the growing body of historical evidence related to early Telugu script and settlement practices in the region.
