Low Pressure In Bay, Heavy Rains Forecast For AP

Visakhapatnam: The low pressure that formed over north Bay of Bengal on Thursday morning is likely to cause heavy rains over north coastal Andhra Pradesh (NCAP) and Yanam.

India Meteorological Department (IMD) said the low-pressure area is likely to become well-marked on Friday (June 25) and move west, northwest-wards towards north Odisha and adjoining West Bengal coasts during the next 48 hours. Under the impact of the system, heavy rainfall will occur at isolated places over NCAP till July 27.
Forecasting heavy downpour, IMD has issued an Orange (Be prepared to take action) warning for Srikakulam, Parvathipuram Manyam and Alluri Sitarama Raju (ASR) districts for Friday and Saturday (July 25 and July 26), and for Vizianagaram and Anakapalli districts on Saturday (July 26).
Similarly, a Yellow (Be aware) warning has been issued for the remaining districts in coastal Andhra Pradesh (CAP), apart from Rayalaseema districts for the next three days (July 25 to July 28).
AP Disaster Management Authority has advised fishermen not to venture into the sea during the next three days. A press release of the authority said cautionary signal number 3 has been hoisted at all major ports.
During the last 24 hours, Sompeta in Srikakulam district recorded highest rainfall of 5 cm, followed by 4 cm each in Veeraghattam (Manyam) and Mandasa (Srikakulam), 3 cm each in Palakonda (Manyam), Tekkali and Ichchapuram (Srikakulam) and Kunavaram in ASR district. Few other parts in CAP and Rayalaseema regions recorded rainfall between 1–2 cm.
From June 1 to July 24, Anakapalli, Prakasam and Vizianagaram districts in CAP and Nandyal district in Rayalaseema regions have recorded a normal rainfall. The remaining districts of the state have a deficit of rainfall. AP has recorded 161.4 mm rainfall as against the normal rainfall of 194.6 mm during the period, which translates to 17 per cent deficit.
