Telangana Cabinet Gives Nod to Fill 22,033 Posts

Hyderabad: The state Cabinet on Thursday approved recruitment for 22,033 posts across various departments, giving a green signal for issuing job notifications. This is part of the Congress government’s continued push to expand employment since it assumed office in December 2023.

In the past 18 months, the government has filled about 60,000 vacancies, with another 17,084 posts currently in various stages of recruitment.

To streamline administration and improve accountability, the Cabinet directed the finance department to collect Aadhaar and other details of all outsourcing and contract employees working in different departments. This move aims to enable a comprehensive review of their performance and role in service delivery.

Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy also instructed officials to introduce reforms to enhance employee attendance and responsibility in official duties. A committee of officers, already tasked with related responsibilities, will oversee this process and has been directed to submit a detailed report within two months.

In a noteworthy shift, the Cabinet has adopted a new practice of reviewing decisions taken in previous meetings. During Thursday’s meeting —19th meeting since Congress government assumed office on December 7, 2023 — the Cabinet reviewed the implementation status of decisions taken across 18 earlier meetings.

A total of 327 agenda items were discussed since December 2023, of which 321 were approved. The latest review revealed that 96 per cent of these decisions have been successfully implemented.

To ensure better follow-up, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has decided that Cabinet meetings will now be held twice a month. Additionally, a special session will be convened every three months to assess progress on implementation of cabinet decisions. These reviews will focus on identifying decisions that remain pending, reasons for delays and the extent of bureaucratic involvement in bottlenecks.

In line with the new approach, ministers were informed that the next Cabinet meeting would be held on July 25. This early announcement is aimed at fostering preparedness and efficient governance.
